Aftercare Advice
Following the correct aftercare nail advice is the most important factor to maintain your nails and keep them looking their best.
It’s important that you follow the advice that we recommend to make the most out of your manicure treatment.
The nail advice that we give are general guidelines that everyone should follow to help maintain the condition of the natural nail.
Treat your nails like jewels, not tools! Do not use the tip of your nails to pries open anything or put unnecessary pressure on the free edge that will cause breaks and potentially cause damage. Be aware of your nails when opening a can or car door.
Use cuticle oil daily. Applying CND SolarOil twice a day especially at night will ensure your nails stay nourished, strong and flexible whether you have natural, polished, Shellac or acrylic nails. This natural nail and cuticle oil helps to condition the nails and can also be used on any dry skin areas.
Wear rubber gloves. Protect your nails and hands when using cleaning products, gardening and washing up as many household chemicals can effect the longevity of your nail treatment and start to break down the product before it’s due time.
Do not bite, pick or cut. If you accidentally chip a nail try to refrain from peeling or picking after any nail care treatment as this will cause the product to become weak and will damage your natural nails. If you have a rough edge you can try to gently file it smooth to avoid catching the nail
Allow for drying time. Professionally applied nail polish can take up to 2 hours to dry through thoroughly and 24 hours to completely set. Although they will be touch-dry in 20-30 minutes, you will still need to be careful with freshly painted nails.
Avoid intense heat. Up to 24 hours after application nail products– no hot water, sauna or sunbed as it may cause heat spikes on your nails and prolong the setting or curing process.
Wash your hands. After you apply sun cream, tinted lotions, insect repellent and coloured hair products. Some products contain ingredients that can possibly cause nails to discolour, fade or weaken. Avoid products that contain lanolin or mineral oils as these will give you service breakdown.
Top up your colour. You may apply nail polish or a top coat over your manicured or enhanced nails for a change of colour or as a top up every few day to increase longevity.
Use non-acetone remover. If you are removing nail polish you need to be aware of any products containing acetone can compromise longevity of your nail treatment.
Maintain between 10-14 days. Your nail enhancements will last up to two weeks and will require a maintenance appointment after this time. It is vital that you keep up with maintenance to avoid natural nail damage. The more you have your nails maintained the stronger they will become over time.
Nail enhancement and Shellac removal. It is advisable to make an appointment for this service as you could cause damage to your natural nails if you do them yourself. We use a gentle but effective, conditioning soak off solution that will remove product with ease.
Adverse reactions can occur. If you experience any itchiness, redness, burning, tightness, swelling or soreness up to 48 hours after any nail treatment this could be the sign of an allergic reaction and the nails you had done will need to be removed immediately.
Please note that all repairs are chargeable. Our nail enhancements are not indestructible and are as likely to break as your natural nail would. Please contact us within 24 hours if any chips or breakages occur so that we can assess the nail to see if a repair is necessary.
