SENNIES are looking for a full-time SEN Nanny/Manny and/or Teacher for in Ealing, for a
young man who is currently unable to attend school due to his difficulties.
About B15:
B15 has been diagnosed with dyslexia and dyspraxia.
He stopped attending school in October 2019 due to anxiety and struggling with a
breakdown in some important relationships with his peers/teachers, but especially did not like all of the 1:1 education he was receiving. The recent lockdown, unfortunately,
exacerbated these feelings which have now caused B15 to experience further anxiety around leaving the house as well as his general motivation even for his preferred activities.
Prior to this B15 was really passionate about outdoor activities like cycling and was an avid drummer, however, he has now lost interest in hobbies that once brought him joy.
About the role:
B15 is currently attempting a slow transition back into school life which he is very hesitant about and it is unlikely that he will return to schooling full-time. The chosen Sennie will have experience in working with teenagers, particularly boys, and will work towards helping B15 regain interest in his hobbies, building up his confidence/independence by using positive reinforcement/language, finding ways to try and reduce his anxiety as well as and ensuring he is getting enough exercise outside of the house where possible.
He is taking 5 GCSE’s and so the Sennie should be confident with teaching and be able to
devise flexible, creative lessons to help B15 thrive, regardless of his learning disabilities.
A tutor could be provided for the key subjects for the right Sennie, if they feel they are unable to run these lessons alone, however, someone who is able to take the lead on B15’s education is preferred. It is important to note that B15’s happiness and confidence levels are more important than school exams and his overall GCSE grades.
This role will require teamwork, working alongside B15’s mother, who is friendly, open and very dedicated to her son, to guide B15 into making positive choices and developing
understanding and self-awareness, in regards to his emotions and perception of
conversations. B15 can become seemingly easily offended/cross if things are not going his way, or if he feels people are ‘patronising’ him. Mum has found that arguments can become difficult without another adult present especially as, with age, B15 is getting more defiant, taller and stronger. A confident, experienced male role model would be ideal for this household however the role is open to all genders.
B15 can be shy around new people but when he is frustrated, he does not back down easily and can occasionally become overwhelmed leading to some slightly explosive behaviour such as throwing objects. As with most children, this is more likely to occur in the presence of family members and to date has not happened with anyone other than family members.
It is integral that the chosen Sennie is: physically fit, has experience in behaviour
management can form a close and trusting bond quickly with B15 so they can then set clear boundaries, can remain resilient and is capable of supporting B15’s social, emotional, physical and intellectual development.
The Sennie selected will be able to follow and support therapies and interventions
determined by the family and professionals. A genuine interest in working with SEN children is a must.
