Teeth Whitening

Teeth get darker with age and so for a brighter, more youthful-looking smile, professional teeth whitening is very popular, particularly for a special event such as a wedding, birthday, or as part of a cosmetic makeover.

Using a special peroxide gel applied to the teeth, we can whiten your teeth by up to nine shades. As the procedure is simple and safe, you can choose to have teeth whitening performed at the practice or do it yourself at home or you can opt for a mix of the two.

Diamond Teeth Whitening Package - £499

In-Surgery Whitening

This teeth whitening treatment is performed at our Bedford surgery by your Dental Surgeon with a noticeable difference in two hours. It begins with a short preparation to cover your lips and gums, leaving only your teeth exposed. The Zoom Whitening Gel was designed to be used with a specifically designed light.

Here at St Peters Clinic, we use ZOOM Whitening gel to perform our in-surgery teeth whitening. Together with a specifically designed light, the gel works to help break down stains and discolouration that has built up over the years on your teeth.

When you purchase the In-Surgery whitening package you will also receive the following:

- A top-up whitening kit that you can take home. It comes with either day or night treatments.

- A custom-designed tray to complete the whitening in your own home.

Sapphire Teeth Whitening Package £250

At-Home Whitening Kit

This package can offer the results of In-Surgery Whitening in the comfort of your own home with a noticeable difference within 1-2 weeks. The system uses a mild solution of a whitening agent on a custom fitted tray that is worn over your teeth. While you wear the tray the bleaching gel gently whitens your teeth. The trays can be worn either day or night.

Package includes:

- Take home whitening kit – with a choice of either day or night treatments

- Custom made tray for whitening at home.

Orthodontics

At our clinic, the dentists and supporting team members aim to ensure that every patient has the perfect journey to achieving a beautiful straight smile. We use the very highest standards in advanced modern orthodontic treatments for our patients. Our orthodontic treatments aim to correct problems including gaps, crooked and twisted teeth, overbites, underbites and overcrowding.

Our comprehensive approach to orthodontics ensures that every patient will be presented with all the treatment options during a consultation and be informed about the process at every stage and appointment. We offer a variety of orthodontic brace systems currently available in the UK. These include:

Orthopaedic Orthodontic Appliances - ALF (Advanced Lightwire Functional)

ALF or Advance Lightwire Functional refers to a wire framework or ‘appliance’ that sits behind your teeth, as opposed to what many people think of when they hear the word ‘braces’, where the braces are visible on the outside.

The wires exert a constant gentle pressure on your teeth and jaw bones. ALF can be used to correct a variety of problems, including misalignment of the teeth and jaw, overbites and underbites.

Invisible braces such as Invisalign and SmileTru

Invisalign invisible braces or ‘clear aligners’ offer an almost invisible way to straighten your teeth and are a more attractive alternative to wire braces (train tracks). The invisible braces are made of a type of transparent plastic. They’re removable and can be taken out briefly to eat and clean.

Straight Wire Therapy in metal or ceramic (train tracks)

We also offer straight wire therapy – this is the orthodontic technique most people are familiar with, and it’s highly effective at straightening and aligning teeth. These fixed braces or ‘train tracks’ use metal brackets that are attached to the teeth and move them slowly over time.

This kind of orthodontic treatment usually lasts from one to two years and can be used on upper or lower teeth. There’s something quite endearing about these kinds of braces and they’re still popular, although the look isn’t for everyone.

Our treatment approach always has a holistic goal, treating the whole face, with orthodontics at the centre of it.

The end result is a beautiful smile with facial harmony.

Hygiene Services

Our dental therapist, Derrick, will help keep your teeth clean and your gums healthy, as well as sharing his knowledge so you can develop an effective dental care strategy at home. As an experienced and qualified member of our team, he also adopts a gentle approach so all his treatments are carried out efficiently with your comfort in mind.

One of the dental hygiene services he provides is to spruce up your teeth with a ‘scale and polish’- removing stubborn tartar and plaque, as well as leaving them feeling extra clean. he will also check for signs of gum disease as this tooth threatening condition can cause serious damage and often goes unnoticed.

Derrick will teach you how to keep on top of your dental hygiene with techniques and advice about how to use dental tools, such as floss and interdental brushes. He will also make sure you know which foods are kind to your teeth and which more harmful snacks to avoid.

Derrick is also skilled in treating more advanced gum disease known as periodontitis. If you suffer from this condition then a three monthly visit to the see Derrick and an extensive home maintenance programme is advisable.

He can protect teeth by applying fissure sealants, helping to shield them from bacteria – an ideal treatment for younger teeth when they first start to emerge. In fact, it is a good idea to introduce your children to Derrick from an early age so they can develop lifelong tooth care skills.

Regularly visiting our qualified therapist will help ensure the continued health of your teeth and gums, as well as protecting your overall well-being because poor gum health has been linked to more serious conditions such as heart disease and diabetes.

Dental Fillings

Chipped or damaged teeth, or those with dental cavities caused by tooth decay, often need repair. This not only improves the appearance of the tooth but prevents further damage and eases a toothache and pain you may be suffering from.

Modern dental fillings are very different from the amalgam fillings used in the past. We can easily restore teeth using materials such as advanced composites, resins and glass ionomer cement. The colour of these can be matched to the natural colour of your teeth, for a near-invisible result.

Fillings are perfect for relatively minor tooth repair. If the damage is more extensive, other restorations maybe required, such as onlays, inlays, crowns or veneers, which are custom-made for each patient by a specialist laboratory and fitted by us in the practice.

Can old fillings be replaced?

Yes! If you have any of the unsightly amalgam dental fillings (containing mercury) which are failing, we can usually replace them with modern alternatives that do not contain mercury.

What is the treatment process?

To complete the dental filling, we first remove the decayed area under local anaesthetic. We then layer the composite resin onto the cleaned cavity and shape this to fit the tooth. Composite is an aesthetic material which is colour matched to your existing teeth. The composite we use is translucent like your own teeth which means that it will reflect light similar to enamel therefore, when placed it is very difficult to detect with the naked eye. A special bright light is used to harden the malleable resin, leaving you with a natural-looking and durable dental filling.

Dentures

Our natural looking, comfortable dentures are expertly constructed from a variety of durable materials and offer an alternative solution for missing teeth. These fully functional replacement teeth can help improve how you eat and speak, and boost your confidence by restoring your smile.

Our partial dentures are designed to blend in with existing teeth and our full sets of dentures look so realistic, no one will guess they aren’t the real thing.

The Fitting Process

- Your first visit will include a thorough assessment of your soft tissues, gums and areas of bone to make sure they are suitably healthy.

- We will take accurate impressions of your mouth to create a model that can then be checked for fit and comfort.

- A final set of dentures is produced and you will return for the final fitting.

- Following on, you will be required to come back for a follow-up appointment. This appointment will allow us to check that the dentures have settled in well.

Aftercare

New dentures will take a little while to ‘bed in’ and may need a little adjustment when they have settled into your mouth.

It may feel a little strange when you first eat with new dentures, so it’s a good idea to start off with softer foods and gradually introduce more tricky items. Your saliva flow may increase but this will soon ease off. Your speech may also be affected, but just keep on talking and you’ll soon get used to speaking normally.

You will need to remove your dentures at night to give your gums a rest. They will also need cleaning when you take them out so use a toothbrush or denture brush to keep them fresh. Store them in water or denture fluid overnight so they don’t dry out and lose their shape.

Make sure you attend regular check-ups so we can make sure your dentures are still fitting properly and remain comfortable.
