SENNIES are looking for a Full-time, Live-in OR Live out SEN Nanny for a wonderful family
in Aldworth near Reading.
This is a fantastic role with incredible accommodation and grounds. The family are especially
keen to find someone who is looking for a long term position and enjoys living in a rural
location. Whilst they are not based within walking distance to public transport links or a
supermarket, a driver can take advantage of the fast routes to London, Reading and Oxford,
which are easily accessible by car and/or train.
About G14
G14 has athetoid/dystonic Cerebral Palsy affecting all four limbs, and significant
communication difficulties. Despite her lack of verbal communication, she is a very bright,
happy and intelligent teen, who is progressing well at school. She has a great sense of
humour and strives to achieve as much as she can despite her disabilities.
G14 has developed some challenging behaviours including temper tantrums which stem
from her frustration at her lack of control over her life. It is suspected that she has some ASD
traits although diagnosis is difficult given her other disabilities.
About the role/responsibilities:
The family are looking for someone cheerful and energetic, who can build a real friendship
with their daughter, whilst helping her with her daily routine. G14 communicates well using
an eye gaze communication system, which also enables her to access her school
curriculum, homework, email and the internet. IT competence would be an advantage.
You will be accompanying her to local leisure activities as well as attending to her personal
care needs (dressing, bathing, feeding and taking her to the toilet) and taking an active role
in her medical and therapy needs. Training will be provided by the parents, which will include
but is not limited to, learning her physiotherapy programme, manual handling techniques and
development of independence skills.
G14 really enjoys adapted sports and is a real thrill seeker. Prior to lockdown, she regularly
participated in swimming, sit skiing, sailing and bowling, all of which she hopes to resume as
and when it is safe to do so. Lucky they have a number of the facilities onsite (swimming
pool, sauna, trampoline), so a Sennie who enjoys these activities is key. She also loves
reading, films and shopping trips!
You will have to be able to organise and accompany her in
these activities, as well as being enthusiastic in initiating new hobbies and help her develop
her social life. It is key her new Sennie is able to create a safe, nurturing and stimulating
environment in which she can thrive and develop.
Personality fit is more important to the family than experience as relevant training will be
provided however Cerebral Palsy or a good understanding of medical administration would
heavily support your application.
The Sennie selected will be able to follow and support therapies and interventions
determined by the family and professionals.
A genuine interest in working with SEN children
is a must. If the above sounds like you, please fill in the Sennies online application form and
ensure you state your availability and live in/out preference, quote REF 0054.
FURTHER EMPLOYMENT AVAILABLE FOR PARTNER IN GARDEN/MAINTENANCE
CAPACITY IF REQUIRED.
Due to the volume of applicants we will only be in touch with successful candidates.
