Buchananvets was founded in 2002 by Paul Buchanan. In June 2015 Simon Snader bought into the practice and is now a co-owner in Buchananvets.
We have two veterinary centres in South Manchester. The practices are fully computerised with the details of each pet and owner logged into the database. This means that no matter which surgery you normally attend your pet’s records are also available at our other sites.
It is our aim to provide the highest standard of veterinary care for your pets.
Our veterinary surgeons and nursing staff undertake regular CPD (Continuing Professional Development) to ensure our knowledge and techniques are up to date.
Both our surgeries are accredited by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons which promotes the highest standard of veterinary care. Our Timperley Branch is also a training practice for student veterinary nurses.
Our practice ethos is ‘Do to others as you would have them do to you‘
It is important for us to continuously monitor and where possible improve our practice. Any feedback that you would care to give would be welcomed.
Home Visits
We understand that in some circumstances it is not possible for a pet to be brought into the practice.
We are pleased to offer house visits, which can be arranged at our mutual convenience.
In-patients
We have separate dog and cat wards for the comfort of your pet while they are with us for the day. We also have isolation facilities for potentially infectious cases.
For pets that need ongoing care throughout the night, each case will be reviewed by the attending veterinary surgeon and a decision made for overnight care. Please note that there are no staff on the premises overnight and so referral to our out of hours provider, Petmedics, may be the most suitable option for your pet.
Kennels
We have a selection of high quality stainless steel hygienic kennels for our patients.
We use vet beds and blankets to keep our patients warm and comfortable.
We have kennels set aside in a separate kennel area to cater for potentially infectious patients.
At our Timperley branch we also have a separate dog and cat ward, plus a walk in kennel (pictured) for large dogs.
Laboratory
We have in-house blood testing laboratory machines for biochemistry and haematology. This means we can usually have results back the same day.
For more advanced testing we use a dedicated veterinary laboratory who are able to get results to us within 24-48 hours depending on the test carried out.
Microchipping
Microchips are small transponders inserted under the skin between the shoulder blades. They are invaluable in re-uniting lost pets with their worried owners.
Microchips can be placed by any of our vets or qualified nurses.
From April 2016, it became law in England for all dogs to be microchipped.
Nurse Clinics
Our nurses are able to provide a range of services for your pets.
These include:
- nail clips
- microchipping
- post-operative checks
- weight clinics
- development checks
- dental checks, and many more
They are also on hand to offer any general advice regarding care of your pets.
Pet Insurance
Pet insurance can prove invaluable for when your pet becomes ill.
Pet insurance is an excellent option to plan financially for those unforeseen bills.
There are many pet insurance companies and policies available and we advise to check and compare cover carefully.
We are able to do direct claims in certain circumstances, but please be aware that in the event of the claim not being paid, the responsibility of the cost lays with the policyholder.
If you wish to make a claim, please bring us a completed insurance claim form with all the sections that are required to be filled by the policyholder completed.
For any further advice please contact one of our insurance advisors who will be happy to help.
Pet Passports
Many of our vets are appointed as Official Veterinarians by DEFRA, meaning that they are able to issue pet passports and assist with export requirements.
Pet passports allow travel within the EU.
Travel outside of the EU may require additional paperwork and checks.
It is important to allow plenty of time before travel to complete the process.
Microchips are required for all foreign travel, and rabies vaccination is also usually required.
Requirements vary greatly between countries and we recommend checking with DEFRA, as soon as you consider travelling with your pet, to get the most up-to-date iinformation.
Puppy Parties
We run regular puppy parties with our nurse at the Timperley branch. Puppies who have completed their vaccination course are welcome to attend.
Puppy parties offer a great opportunity for your puppy to socialise with other people and dogs, and for owners to gain advice regarding puppy care.
Radiography/X-rays
We have a modern X-ray machine and digital processor, providing consistently good quality images.
The digital nature of our equipment allows for easy access and excellent record keeping.
Surgery
We are able to provide surgical services at both branches.
From routine neutering operations, to more complex soft tissue surgeries and orthopaedic operations.
All backed up with use of modern anaesthetics and monitoring.
For further information and prices please speak to reception.
Ultrasound
The ultrasound scanner is an excellent non-invasive diagnostic tool.
Ultrasound can be used in a variety of cases, from pregnancy diagnosis to abdominal imaging for diagnosis.
Vaccinations
Annual health checks and vaccinations are important for protecting your pet from common diseases.
Vaccines are offered for dogs, cats and rabbits routinely.
Please contact reception for prices and to book an appointment.
Weight Clinics
Our nurses run free weight clinics for those pets who need to lose weight.
As well as regularly weighing your pet, these clinics provide information and advice about diet and weight loss.
Please call reception to book your free weight clinic check with a nurse.
