Botox in Knutsford?
Botox® is a prescription only medicine. It is administered via fine injections into muscles to stop forceful contraction. The treatment itself lasts between 10-20 minutes.
Botox® was developed during the 1970s and received full FDA approval in 1997 for cosmetic use.
Botox® has been proven very useful in cosmetic treatments, such as removing frown lines. In addition to the treatment of frown lines and wrinkles, Botox® is also used to treat migraines, headaches and Hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating).

How long do the results last?

Is Botox® safe? What are the potential side-effects?
Hundreds of clinical studies have proven the long-term safety of Botox® treatment. However, as in the case of most medical treatments there may be potential side effects such as:
- Swelling and redness briefly after the treatment
- Bruising (uncommon)
- Headache can last 2-3 days (uncommon)
- Eyebrow or eyelid droop can last few weeks (uncommon)

- Lying down or excessive bending
- Strenuous exercise
- Hair-washing or massages to the area
Who should avoid treatment?

- Pregnant or breast-feeding mothers
- Those with a history of muscle disorders such as Myasthenia Gravis
- Those undergoing antibiotic treatment (particularly erythromycin) should wait till the infection has been cured fully

Does it hurt?
Juvederm® Ultra, Juvederm® Smile , Restylane® and Perlane® contain lidocaine, a local anaesthetic which has been proven to minimise any discomfort. Ice, anaesthetic cream and a very fine needle are used to ensure the most painless experience possible.
What are the risks?
Only safe, proven and temporary products are used. However minor risks include bruising, swelling, and redness. These tend to settle over a few days. All questions & aftercare are discussed during the medical consultation.
How long will the effects last?
Juvederm® Ultra has been proven to last up to one year.
Duration of effects depends on different factors:

Do I need to avoid anything before or after the treatment?
Avoid excessive sun exposure or sunbed use
You are advised to avoid using aspirin or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (eg ibuprofen) a few of days before your anti-wrinkle treatment (unless they are taken for chronic medical conditions). Avoiding these medications will reduce the risk of bruising and bleeding at the point of injection.
No make-up for at least 12 hours after the treatment
Who may not be suitable for treatment?
Pregnant or breast-feeding patients
Patients suffering with active coldsores (herpes) at the time of treatment
Patients with a current infection treated with antibiotics should wait until the infection has fully resolved
Patients suffering from certain chronic medical illnesses or skin conditions may not be suitable or need a specialised treatment regime, however this will be discussed in full at the medical consultation.
